What is Lysine?

Lysine is an “essential amino acid”, which means that the human body cannot make it and must therefore rely on food sources to obtain the Lysine it needs. Lysine is an important foundation of many of the body’s proteins, including collagen. Collagen is an important part of skin and connective tissue, which means Lysine may support the maintenance of healthy skin, tendons, ligaments and cartilage.

What are good food sources of Lysine?

Lysine is mostly found in animal products like poultry, meat, some fish, eggs, and some types of cheeses, or legumes like beans, peas and lentils. Leafy greens such as spinach, and seeds like quinoa and buckwheat have reasonable levels of Lysine.
