Lecithin is an essential nutrient which is naturally present in all plant and animal cells. Lecithin comes from the Greek word Lekithos which means ‘egg yolk’. This is a fitting name for lecithin since eggs are thought of as a symbol of life and fertility.

The human brain is made up of about 30% lecithin and the myelin sheaths that protect nerves throughout the body are nearly two-thirds lecithin. The human heart is also concentrated with high levels of lecithin.

Lecithin is rich in naturally occurring phospholipids, particularly phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine and other natural compounds including inositol, linoleic acid, and triglycerides.
